A weekend of firsts

Charlie really expanded his horizons this past weekend. He spent his first real extended quality time around a cat at my cousin Leigh's apartment in DC, where we stayed for the extended weekend. The first evening was a bit frightening to him, but he was really tired from the flight. By the end of the weekend, he was excited to see the kitty and would actually look for where it was in the apartment. He even made a good effort at saying "cat." Another day or two and maybe they would have been cuddling up with each other.

To partly pay her back for her hospitality, we took Leigh to dinner on Friday night. It was during that meal that Charlie tried his first guacamole. I dipped a bit of his cheese quesadilla in it, and to our surprise, he not only ate it, but he sucked the guacamole off first, before even touching the cheese or tortilla! He also ate some beans from John's fajita platter, and couldn't get enough!

It was also during this meal that Charlie began a new activity-- wiping his hands with a napkin. He had gotten quite messy, and when he got a hold of one of our napkins somehow, he wrung his hands with it and then used it to wipe the table in front of him! Thus started a trend that we observed the rest of the weekend.

We had a great time visiting with the Nelsons on the Mall on Saturday morning, where Charlie had his first carousel ride. John and I enjoyed Mike and Eve's reception that evening while Charlie stayed with Leigh. On Sunday morning, Charlie had his first exposure to Dim Sum. He seemed to like the couple of items that he tried before he got fussy and had to be taken out into the hall to run around.

Altogether, Charlie really enjoyed his weekend. Leigh was a great hostess, and Charlie just loved playing with her and her pots and pans.
